The Essential Travel Checklist - Not just for the OVer 65s

Going on a holiday, or just a short break should be fun, but the lead up to it is sometimes stressful. There is so much to remember. At least hopefully by now, you've got your travel insurance covered (if not then you've come to the right place). What else id there left to do and can it be made any easier?

Here are some handy pointers for you.

The Travel Insurance 65 list of things to do before you go on holiday.

In no particular order here are some things that should make preparing for a holiday less stressful.
1.

Get a travel guide to the place that you are visiting. You can get loads of free guides online now and they are simple and quick to print off. Here is a link to Wikitravel. It has loads of good free information on it. Or if you would prefer something a bit more sturdy and longlasting, then buy your travel guide online from somewhere like Amazon.

2. Cancel any regular deliveries. If you are giong away for sometime, then don't forget to let the milkman, papershop, or anyone else that regularly visits or delivers to you, know that you will be away.
3.

Get you hire car sorted out. Book your hire car online and save a packet. It's much cheaper and easier than doing it over the phone or when you reach your holiday destination. You can look at all of the companies individually or go for a comparison service like holiday autos. RUn by lastminute.com they compare loads of deals, saving you time.

4. Get your hire car insured. Often overlooked, but well worth doing. You can cover your excess for just £49 for a year. In the event of you scratching the car or chipping the windscreen, this means that you woun't need to pay the insurance company excess. A company that can insure your car is Insurance4carhire.
5. Buy some books or find some old ones. More often than not we leave this until we get to the airport, but in doing so are limited for choice, pay more, and take a gamble on what we are getting. So dig out your books that you have been meaning to read and pack them. Or take a look at the best seller list at Amazon.
6. Sort out your holiday music. Get your Cds ready or rip the latest tunes onto your ipod. Having great music or even an audio book with you can really make your holiday even more special. If you haven't already got one, get an MP3 player. The big name brands are really easy to use and mean that you can transport your whole music collection around with you. Better still some of them even let you add addresses and photos, which is great if you want to show off your grandkids, or even the family pet. Click here to see the latest range of ipods at Amazon - they are cheaper than you might think.
7. Find your way around. A simple map or a city plan should be enough. But if you are driving then a SatNav is a must have. If you already own one then make sure that you update it with the map fir the area that you are visiting. If you don't already have one and want to take a look at one then click here to visit the satnav page at amazon.
8. Arrange for airport or train station parking. You guessed it, we are going to recommend that you sort this out in advance online.
9. Get film for your camera. Or make sure that you have a digital camera. Click here to visit Amazon and see a selection of digital camera deals. If you already have a digital camera, then maybe invest in a bigger or spare memory card , and a spare charger.
10. Pack your medicines. Speak to your doctor about any repeat prescriptions that you might need to get before you go.
11.

Pack your glasses. Don't forget to sort out reading and sunglasses.Don't forget to order contact lenses, which incidentally you can get online as well. Save up to 70% off contact lenses at Lensmart.com

12. Change your money.
13. Lose some weight. It's not too late to get yourself in shape. Or maybe have a guilt free holiday eating and drinking what you like knowing that you are joining a weight loss program when you get back. Did you know that you can now do Weight Watchers online? 14. Book your taxi. Don't just book your local cab. You might find a better deal if you ring around a few comanies. Don't forget to haggle and agree the price before leaving.
15. Arrange for someone to water your plants. Don't let your precious plants die while you are away.
16. Set the video. Or use your Sky Box to make sure you don't miss anything while you are away.

HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY
